- All verified absences must be reported through the attendance office (524-7855) by a parent or guardian within 48 hours of the absence. Students lose credit for any class in which they exceed five (5) total absences in a trimester. The grade will be reported as an LCA, Loss of Credit Due to Absences. Students should avoid exceeding the five days allowed. Students who exceed the five absences will have an opportunity to make up the time during makeup sessions if the absences are excused. Parents and students should regularly check attendance to ensure they don't exceed the allowable amount. Make-up sessions will be posted each trimester and you may check with the attendance secretary to make-up time. Transportation for make-up sessions is the responsibility of the student.

LOSS OF CREDIT (LCA) APPEAL – Students who have valid reasons to believe that all or part of their LCA absences are the result of extraordinary circumstances may request a review of their case. All appeals must be submitted in writing to the attendance office no later than the 15th day of the next trimester. An LCA Appeal Committee, consisting of two (2) to four (4) counselors and administrators, will consider the appeals. The LCA Appeal Committee has the authority to grant or deny the appeal. Appeal decisions shall be communicated by letter with a copy placed in the student's cumulative file. Attendance contracts shall be limited to one per student during middle school. The complete school board policy can be found at http://www.d91.k12.id.us/board/Policy/index.pdf

MEDICAL ABSENCE VERIFICATION – An excused absence, due to illness or a medical/dental appointment, directly verified by a licensed medical practitioner via U.S. mail, e-mail, fax (524-7851), or sealed envelope, that was cleared with the attendance office before or within two business days of the student's return to school, will not be counted towards the students total absences.

TRUANCY - A student who is absent from class without proper authorization from parents and/or administration is considered truant even if the student is on school property. Truancy is a violation of the law and will be dealt with in accordance with Idaho Code 33-202, 33-206; recurring absences may result in a student being referred to Truancy Court.

  • Students are expected to be in classrooms, in their seats and ready to begin class, at designated class start times.
  • A student arriving less than 10 minutes after the beginning of class should report directly to the classroom.
  • Students arriving more than 10 minutes after the beginning of class should report to the attendance clerk.
  • A student is considered absent if he/she arrives more than 20 minutes late for a class.
  • Students who choose to be habitually tardy will be assigned disciplinary consequences. These consequences vary depending on the circumstances surrounding the tardiness.
  • Detention that is not served as scheduled will result in additional detention or Saturday School as determined by administration.

MAKE-UP WORK - Students will be allowed the number of days they were absent plus one (up to a maximum of 5 days) to makeup work missed due to verified absences. All assignments made before students were absent will be due the day they return.

HOMEWORK REQUESTS – Please arrange homework requests prior to absences if possible. If a student misses more than three consecutive days, homework requests can be made through the front office by 9 a.m., otherwise students can check with the classroom teacher for makeup work upon the student's return to class.
